Irish rock behemoths U2 have announced their first proper full-length in nine years with Carnaval De Luz. Produced by Jacknife Lee, the album comes as the group's 16th and their first since 2017's Songs of Experience.

The announcement also debuts the surf-punk-tinged single "Silenco." Watch the music video below.

The album marks the group's 50th anniversary, whose career comes with a hefty list of accolades. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame unit's new LP highlights collaborations with acts such as Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, ans notably the late Dolly Parton. The legendary country artist is featured on the closing track, "Torn," which is described as "a tender country song detailing broken family ties that holds wider resonances." Frontman Bono told Rolling Stone of his collaboration with Parton, "When she got ill, she got out of her bed to sing this song. And you can hear that. And I can’t even listen to it now."

U2 released the first single, "Street of Dreams," off the previously unannounced album in July, which was preceded by two EPs, Days of Ash and Easter Lily. The band's leader said of the new album,

"There will be loud guitars, deep bass, some ecstatic rhythms, and, yes, some silver tears will make an appearance! 'Cause in the near distance just outside our carnival of light there are all kinds of creatures… the same imagination that brings us our creativity can also bring us monsters. So we make the drums louder. We build a bigger fire. We make our stories wilder and funnier. We make the melodies sweeter and the songs, they better shine, because if the world is in darkness we better not be."
