We have actually lost another soldier in the AI fight, unfortunately.
Mr. Wayne Coyne of Flaming Lips fame, who is quoted in Creem Magazine in a feature where they say, "Finally, the punk rockers are using AI."
[eyeroll] I don't know if Wayne's canonically a punk rocker, but...
"If an AI machine can make music as cool as yours, cool. I've definitely heard music I thought was really great and then found out it was made by a computer and was like, 'Oh, well, I don't care.' We're the beneficiary. If you like it, you win."
Mr. Flaming Lips himself, unfortunately, sees no qualms with endorsing AI and saying AI music is cool.
I feel like a lot of the soft peddling of AI and trying to force AI down people's throats, often these arguments do kind of run in this direction where it's like, "Oh, well, you already like music made by a computer. And back in the day, people didn't like autotune and drum machines and sampling, and now we have AI-generated music. Like, what's wrong with that? All new technology is rejected when it first comes out."
So, in a way, this does feel almost like trying to, again, muddy the waters a little bit and treat one thing like it's another thing. But, yeah, sadly, Mr. Wayne Coyne himself, coming out with a pro-AI take, in a music magazine no less.
What do you think?
