Dirty Projectors - "Up in Hudson"

New TrackstheneedledropComment

The upcoming self-titled album under the Dirty Projectors name finds the act re-becoming a solo outlet for frontman David Longstreth. "Up in Hudson" is easily the most sonically and structurally compelling single to drop from the project so far, and its lyrics display an unprecedented candidness from Longstreth as he details his relationship with former bandmate Amber Coffman.

Dirty Projectors drops February 24 via Domino.

Nat Baldwin - "In the Hollows"

New TracksjeremyComment

Nat Baldwin, bassist of Dirty Projectors, has been very quietly maintaining a solid solo output for a few years now. His songs usually center around his slightly warbled voice (often leaping up into a falsetto) and his twisty, deft bass playing. His new record is coming out soon, and the title track, "In the Hollows", has been unmasked. It features some staccato string surges behind Baldwin's trademark, David Longstreth-esque (coincidence?) voice, before more band members wriggle out of the woodwork. His work has always had a bit more grit and soul than a lot of DP's, and this song is a nice tasting platter to warm us up for his record.

In the Hollows is out April 29 via Western Vinyl.

Daftside Remixes Random Access Memories

I know Nicolas Jaar isn't the most orthodox of producers, and made a ballsy move when remixing Grizzly Bear and Brian Eno on the same 12" earlier this year; however, I'm not sure anything Nick has done so far could have prepared me for this!

Mixing the name "Daft Punk" with the name of Jaar side-project "Darkside," Daftside takes every single track from the new Daft Punk album and remixes it in a strange, textured, and warped experience--a lot of the album's original funk still remains, though. While the remixes showcase some seriously passion for the music Daft Punk presented on RAM earlier this year, I wonder if keeping the "Lose Yourself To Dance" two seconds long is a statement of some sort.

Either way, the fact that Daftside was able to take tracks like these and bring them into a completely different realm shows focus, vision, and creativity. These aren't your average remixes. Enjoy, and check a review for RAM below:

Dirty Projectors- "While You're Here" (LOVED)

A wonderfully moving ballad from Dirty Projectors, which floats upon a bed of fantastic string sections. I've received quite a few comments saying I was a little unforgiving when it comes to the band's last album; however, I don't see myself coming around on the LP anytime soon. Such is life.

What I am happy about is this particular track streaming via the YouTube embed above is appealing to me much more. It showcases a certain sonic clarity and strange beauty that stuns me in a way words cannot explain. While the track does suffer from the curse of being short, it's still an affective 125 seconds.

This song will be on a new EP from Dirty Projectors, which is looking at a November release via Domino Records. The title: About to Die. And from what I understand, this particular track is in memory of TV On the Radio's Gerard Smith who passed away last year.
