Shit Robot- "Space Race"

New TracksadminComment

"Space Race" is the b-side to a new 12" single written by Irish music producer Marcus Lambkin, a.k.a. Shit Robot. It's being released through DFA records, and follows Robot's 2010 album, From the Cradle To the Rave.

While "Space Race" features a sharp, crisp, and punchy dance groove, there's something sci-fi about the glossy synths that slide flawlessly against the rhythms here. You could probably compare it to any number of soundtracks attached to space-themed movies released in the 80s. You could compare it to Zombi or Vangelis as well, sure, but those artists don't make me want to dance until the sun comes up. That, my friend, is what's happening here.

Doldrums- "I'm Homesick Sittin' Up Here In My Satellite"

A track from the forthcoming Doldrums EP. It's streaming in full on Altered Zones, and it's looking at a release on December 8th via No Pain In Pop.

I think every music nerd fantasizes about what the future of music holds. I, for one, think about the possibility of music kinda becoming a weird, mutated amalgamation of everything we've been listening up until this point. That probably won't happen--not completely, anyway. Interestingly enough, the music of Doldrums--a.k.a. 21-year-old producer Airick Woodhead--makes that future fantasy a present reality.

The music of Doldrums sounds like, well, everything. On the track "I'm Homesick Sittin' Up Here In My Satellite" alone sports orchestral brass samples, tribal percussion, and a vocal melody that's a little jazzy. If you think track is a clash of ideas, you've got to tray "Parrot Talk" via the 'Zones stream.

This EP is gonna get a limited 300-copy release of 12"s, so pre-ordering might be a good idea.
