Yesterday, Barbados-based rapper/producer Haleek Maul continued teasing his upcoming mixtape King Midas with the above demo "Elation," which has a cool trap-flavored atmosphere and makes good us of autotune, and the below track "Feuer," featuring Danish singer Kill J. Looking forward to the tape!

Haleek Maul- "88"

One of the darkest, strangest up-and-coming MCs out there right now is Haleek Maul. The dude recently dropped the Chrome Lips tape with Supreme Cuts, and Haleek continues to build his sound on this new track.

"88" features a really spacious beat, some eerie synths, pitch-shifted voices, and the slightly raspy vocal delivery of Haleek himself. Props to The-Drum on the instrumental, and good work to Merchants of Def on the video.

A lot of experimental hip hop has come out in the past few years. It's funny to think of how different the underground rap scene in 2012 is from that of 2010. 2009 seems even further away. There are numerous sounds, styles, and flavors all in simultaneous competition thanks to the internet. One of the up-and-coming sounds at the moment is dark, tortured, moody, and depressive hip hop. With verses referencing suicidal thoughts, emotional downward spirals, and addiction, Haleek's music isn't exactly a sunny day in the park.
