Todd Terje teases toward his beautifully-titled sophomore album Numero Twomero with a lengthy cover of "Maskindans," an obscure piece of '80s minimal synth from fellow Norwegian dance music duo Det Gylne Triangel. Naturally, this new version is a lot brighter and dancier, but it also features new vocal contributions from the original artists themselves. So, credit to Todd for modernizing this hidden gem and introducing it to a wider audience.

Having dabbled in avant-garde jazz, EAI, noise, and experimental rock throughout its career, the trio now finds itself in a decidedly dark ambient place. Just listen to 12's opening track - Arve Henriksen's forlorn trumpet drifts and stabs out through a murk of synthesized wind courtesy of Ståle Storløkken and Helge Sten. Listening to the track is like slowly losing consciousness in a cave leaking hazardous gas. Thankfully, Supersilent is still capable of delivering inspired material to keep the listener the right kinds of intoxicated and breathless.

Mayhem - "VI.Sec."

And as their label observes, they are indeed "back with a vengeance!" This latest track "VI.Sec." goes through a number of brutal phases, whether the band be at semi-melodic crawl or amid a flurry of tremolo guitar and blast beats. The wretched vocals a little after the minute mark are particularly intense. I'd describe them as akin to the squawk of a velociraptor - abrasive stuff. Happy listening!
