Since the debut of Causers of This, Toro Y Moi’s music has evolved a lot. His sophomore release, Underneath the Pine, leaves behind the summer of Chillwave andpromises to be a true departure from his past efforts. This is clearly demonstrated in the vocal loop driven “New Beat.” Here we have a refined approach that's more reflective of Bundick’s true style and talent. Reminiscent of the disco era, Bundick manages to transcend space and time with a cool ARP vibe that is undeniably groovy. The result, Brundick is expressing himself with utmost confidence and asking us to find out what is Underneath the Pine.-
