New from Fool's Gold Recs, this is Danny Brown's XXX. Brown is one of the strangest rappers you're gonna stumble across right now. After a cursory listen to this album, I'm ready to put him up there with Shabazz Palaces and Death Grips. I mean, the dude chose Squidward to be the first major pop culture reference on this album. What!?
From a beat standpoint, yeah, this dude isn't anything like Shabazz or Grips. But lyrically, some of the same themes are circled. For example, embracing an excessive lifestyle in order to satirize things like drugs, radio rap, and just about anything else that's become a hip hop cliche these days.
To makes things weirder, this dude's voice, flow, and wordplay make him a pretty eccentric character. There's definitely something here a Dizzee Rascal fan can appreciate.
