LA native Jilian Medford, who performs as IAN SWEET, will release her fifth album Shiverstruck on July 24 via Polyvinyl, recorded last year in Atlanta with producer Ben H. Allen (Soccer Mommy, Maxïmo Park, The Big Moon).

Co-written with Constantine Anastasakis (Blonder) and Richard Orofino (Sex Week), lead track "Criminal Kissing" is a sweetly nostalgic tumble into hooking back up with an ex.

Written while living in New York before returning to LA, Shiverstruck charts an unstable period in which Medford was forced renegotiate almost everything in her life: a 3-year relationship folded, and the financial stress of being an independent musician led her to taking on a teaching job.

"Watching children respond to music for the first time; their faces lighting up completely unselfconscious, it rewires your brain as a songwriter and steers you more towards honesty," she says. "Everything felt immediate and real.”

Of the album she adds:

“It was the hardest I've worked and ruminated on lyrics. The writing was the heart of everything and had to feel really grounded. I put in crazy amounts of time and energy to make them feel like the truest reflection of who I am and where Iʼm at in my life right now.”
