YUNOREVIEW: APRIL 2015

The magical monthly segment where I briefly touch down on a gauntlet of albums I didn't get a chance to review this past month. These are just my short, straightforward, passionate, biased opinions.

Metz - "Can't Understand"

Metz release this single through Adult Swim's Summer Singles series. This song is another noisy thumper from Metz, featuring an ascending riff that sounds as if it is gliding up the neck of the guitar. The vocals take secondary importance to the sonic assault, which is as thick and full-y powered as anything they have released so far. Play this when you're really angry at your mom.

METZ- Self-Titled

On its self-titled debut, the Canadian noise rock band METZ brings some heavy sounds and great riffs, but not a lot of variety or songwriting power.

METZ- "Wet Blanket"

Canadian rock upstarts METZ are gearing up to release their self-titled full-length debut via none other than the long-standing Sub Pop Records in October. Following "Headache," "Wet Blanket" is the second track to drop from the album, and is available to stream above.

With plenty of emotion, dissonance, and distortion at their disposal, METZ don't seem to be having trouble crafting raw, to-the-point rock songs. METZ may be their first LP, but with this and "Headache" confirmed as being under its belt, it's shaping up to feel like a realized, confident collection of material.

METZ- "Headache"

METZ is a new Canadian rock outfit, and they're making their full-length debut this October on Sub Pop records, which is a huge start for any up-and-comer. It's a big opportunity, and the band has the sound to match it. The first single from this forthcoming self-titled album hits hard. I mean h-a-r-d! It's, like, almost Drive Like Jehu's Yank Crime hard.

Post-punk, post-hardcore, and noise rock are certainly strong with this trio. Shots of guitar feedback and pure noise fill what little air surrounding the uncompromising riffs that are pounding through the first single from this new album, "Headache." I love the way the vocals kinda swirl into the mess of guitar and bass with a shot of bouncy reverb. Oh, and let's not forget the drums. Damn, they're loud! It's like a pistol going off every time a drum stick hits the snare drum.

The production is solid. From what I understand, Holy Fuck's Graham Walsh even had a hand in it. Again, this album is dropping in October, and you can scope the track list to this album below:
